COMMUNICATING ACROSS CULTURES: EXPLORING THE DYNAMICS OF BUSINESS COMMUNICATION IN EAST ASIA

In this webinar, Sang Kim and Amanda Carr will discuss their work at the University of Missouri (MU) Asian Affairs Center. The Asian Affairs Center is an intercultural organization that builds and maintains university relationships with partners in Asia, develops and executes educational programming for visiting students and scholars from Asia, and promotes cultural awareness of Asia in the local community. Sang and Amanda will discuss how they have navigated the dynamics of communication with partners in China, Japan, and South Korea, using examples from their everyday work. Tom Ray will serve as the moderator.

About the speaker, Sang Kim

Sang Kim has served as the director of the MU Asian Affairs Center and Missouri International Training Institute since September 2004, and as director of the MU Confucius Institute since November 2015. From 1998, he served in the Asian Affairs Center as the Korean program coordinator, assistant director, associate director and interim director. Sang and his teams establish and maintain partnerships and programmatic relationships with universities and government entities. These relationships have resulted in the development of various educational programs for governments and academic and research institutions, which enhance the influence and connections of Missouri throughout Asia.

About the speaker, Amanda Carr

Amanda Carr has worked at the University of Missouri (MU) Asian Affairs Center since 2012 and is currently the Head of Curriculum and Program Development. Prior to her work with MU, Amanda spent four years living and working in Japan in the education sector. Her current role involves building international partnerships, collaborating on program development, and developing and managing curriculum. Amanda also manages university partnerships with Japan and is involved with sister relationships at the city and state levels.

About the moderator, Tom Ray

Tom Ray, First Vice President at CBRE, Inc. in Clayton, MO and a former GKF board member, has experience in both landlord agency and tenant representation. He is particularly noted for his expertise in successfully repositioning office parks and buildings. His focus on creatively branding properties and leveraging each building’s value-added benefits has established him as one of St. Louis’ premier landlord brokers.
