ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Korean American poet David Cho will be joining GKF for our October webinar. This webinar features poetry readings from David Cho’s poetry books Night Sessions (2011) and A Half-Life(forthcoming), along with a Q&A after. His poetry covers topics such as how one balances Korean heritage and life here in the Midwest, especially from a Korean immigrant’s son, born and raised in Chicago.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER, DAVID S. CHO

David S. Cho was born and raised in the Chicago area, along with his brother and extended family, the proud children of Korean immigrants in the early 1970s. He holds a BA from the University of Illinois, MFA and MA from Purdue University, MAT and PhD from the University of Washington, and taught at Hope College (Holland, MI) for eleven years as an Associate Professor of English and Director of the American Ethnic Studies program (2008-2019), now Director of the Office of Multicultural Development at Wheaton College. He is the author of a chapbook, Song of Our Songs (2010), book of poems, Night Sessions (2011), and a scholarly manuscript on 20th Century Korean American novels, Lost in Translation (2017). A Half-Life is forthcoming from CavanKerry Press (2021).

ABOUT THE MODERATOR, JUNNIE BAE

Junnie Bae is an 18-year-old senior at Metro Academic and Classical High School. As the founder of the cinematography club in school, he loves collaborating with friends to make short skits, films, and documentaries. Outside of school, he participates in many community organizations like the St. Louis Youth Ambassadors and the Asian American Civic Scholars where he works on civic engagement and cultural education initiatives. Currently, he is working on an oral history and immigration project about Asian Americans in St. Louis as well as creating educational content on social media.
