ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Professor Bonnie Oh will present the difficult subject of Comfort Women. This webinar will cover the lessons, legacies, and remembrances of Comfort Women through a discussion of past and present issues. Professor Bonnie Oh will articulate how these issues impact the status of comfort women utilizing a wide range of international activities, art works, and narratives from the past few decades.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Bonnie Oh was born and raised in South Korea. She is emerita distinguished professor of Korean studies at Georgetown University, where she served as director of the women’s studies program. She has published extensively on comfort women during World War II, the American military government in Korea, as well as on nationalism and feminism in Korea.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR

Seungkwon You completed his master’s degree and Ph.D. in political science at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is the director of the Global Leadership Program at the Asian Affairs Center, which hosts more than 70 Asian professionals, including Koreans, Chinese, Thais, and Vietnamese. Additionally, he is an associate teaching professor for the Korean Studies Program and the director of the Institute for Korean Studies at MU, and has been teaching courses on Korean society through cinema and U.S.-Korean relations for the past 20 years..
